Encuentro Latinoamericano Tierra Territorio y Derechos de las Mujeres Afrodescendientes | Octubre 2016

The Regional Meeting: Land, Territory and the Rights of Women of African Descent, is the fifth workshop on gender and territorial rights in Latin America promoted by by the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) with support from civil society groups. From October 11 to 13, women of African descent from all over Latin America will have a space to discuss and articulate measures intended to clarify the collective land and resource rights of African descendant women in Latin America.

These measures are in response to the United Nations call to all countries of the world declaring 2014-2024 the Decade for People of African Descent, citing the need to strengthen national, regional, and international cooperation in relation to the full enjoyment of social, economic, cultural, civil, and political rights of people of African descent and their full and equal participation in all aspects of society.

This workshop is, above all, a space for discussion on the construction of recommendations for international organizations that promote measures related to the inclusion of access to collective land and resource rights where the themes of identity, development and political participation of women of African descent are the focus.

The event is organized by the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI), the Fundación Tridha, the Proceso de Comunidades Negras (PCN) and the Autoridad Nacional Afrocolombiana (ANAFRO).
