On July 22, RRI, Council for Social Development (CSD), and Vasundhara will launch a new study ton the Potential of Community Forest Resource (CFR) Rights under the Forest Rights Act of India.

The first assessment of its kind, this study reveals that the Forest Rights Act (FRA) has the potential to recognize the rights of approximately 150 million forest dwellers on at least 40 million hectares of forested land that they have been managing or interacting with for generations. The recognition of CFR Rights under the FRA provides a historic opportunity to implement the largest land and forest governance reform ever in India, giving the opportunity to at least 150 million forest dwelling people to have their rights recognized in more than 170,000 villages. During the event, the study’s findings will be presented along with testimonies from community leaders who have directly engaged with the FRA implementation process from Odisha, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.

If you plan on attending, please R.S.V.P. to [email protected].  The presentations and discussions will be followed by lunch.
