African governments and regional institutions are increasingly recognizing the importance of acknowledging and securing the land rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities as a key driver of social peace and sustainable economic development. 

Capitalizing on commitments made and lessons learned at previous meetings in Ghana (2017), Madagascar (2019), and Togo (2021), Rights and Resources Initiative—in collaboration with the government of Tanzania’s Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Tanzania Land Alliance, and the Tanzanian Forest Conservation Group—will co-host the Fourth Regional Conference of National Land Institutions on Securing Community Land Rights in Africa in Arusha, Tanzania from September 12–14, 2023.
