Women’s Leadership in Climate and Conservation Action Needs Greater Financial Support: Voices from the Women in Global South Alliance (WiGSA)
When: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Friends House 173-177 Euston Road
Hosts: Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) and the Women in Global South Alliance (WiGSA), in collaboration with the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and the CBD Women’s Caucus
What: Join RRI, WiGSA, IIED, FCDO, and the CBD Women’s Caucus for a critical side event at LCAW focused on gender equity in climate and biodiversity finance.
This event will highlight new findings on the lack of direct funding to women-led organizations, explore solutions such as community monitoring and community-generated and gender-disaggregated data, and call for a human rights-based approach to financing. With the anticipated announcement of a second donor pledge at COP30 in November 2025, this session will outline tangible steps to ensure women’s tenure rights and leadership are integrated into global climate and biodiversity financing mechanisms while leveraging the UK government’s leadership in promoting inclusive, gender-responsive funding models.
