On May 15, the Swedish Embassy in the U.S. hosted a multi-sectoral dialogue with RRI, Landesa, Cadasta, Forest Trends, and the Land Portal Foundation. The event focused on the challenges and opportunities in securing land tenure rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and Afro-descendant Peoples to achieve global climate goals.

Context

Coinciding with the upcoming World Bank Land Conference this May, this event had two parts. It began with a multi-sector panel discussion on key challenges and opportunities in securing land tenure rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and Afro-descendant Peoples to achieve global climate goals.

Moderated by Amy Coughenour, CEO of Cadasta Foundation, the panel included representatives from the global donor community, governments in the Global South, rights-holder groups, and civil society. This dialogue aimed to contribute to new and deepened collaboration to catalyze collective action for rights and climate action.

Following the panel discussion, we celebrated the 15th Anniversary of the Land Portal Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing open knowledge for the land sector and promoting dialogue on Indigenous and community land rights.
