Regional Workshop on Strengthening CF Networks and Federations in Asia


This workshop is designed to meet existing demands to strengthen community forestry-based networks and federations" to ensure that community organizations are effective and results-driven. It will not only provide an opportunity to share knowledge on successful advocacy tools and techniques" but also give an overview on shortcomings of advocacy processes" and develop strategies for empowering community-based organizations. Throughout the Asia region" community organizations have been working towards securing community rights on forests" especially natural resources. This workshop will also serve as a forum for inpidual organizations and federations to provide updated status on how they are moving to secure the goals of communities. Moreover" it will explore and analyze existing the existing status of networks and federations" and craft a regional-level strategy to guide GACF's future direction.



Objective

To derive possible strategies for strengthening community forestry-based networks and federations in the Asia region in particular" while establishing links to global strategies in general.


Specifically" the workshop will aim to:

  • Explore the existing status of CF networks and federations from a regional perspective

  • Identify key learning" challenges" opportunities" and future directions of each country to fortify the status of their federations and networks

  • Support and strengthen existing regional networks by providing linkages between various projects currently being implemented in the region

  • Identify best practices in the field of policy advocacy and campaigning

  • Share knowledge and experiences

Build concrete action plan


Time Frame

The workshop will cover five days in total. The initial three days will be spent in dialogue in order for participants and facilitators to gain further insights and examine workshop themes in detail. The final two days will provide opportunity for field visits to community forest areas around Bangkok.
