The Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI), the Black Communities Process of Colombia (PCN) and the Observatory of Ethnic and Peasant Territories of the Javeriana University of Colombia (OTEC) will hold the parallel panel «Afro-descendant Territories in Latin America: Collective Territorial Rights and their Contribution to the Preservation of the Environment and the Adaptation and Mitigation of the Effects of Climate Change», as part of the second version of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent organized by The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The side event will present the latest results of the second report on Afro-descendant Peoples’ Territories in Biodiversity Hotspots across Latin America and the Caribbean and the recently launched cartographic viewer that shows the territorial presence of Afro-descendant Peoples in 16 countries of the region.
