In Mali, RRI Collaborator Sahel Eco has been leading advocacy efforts for two years around the development of more inclusive and equitable policies for non-timber forest products (NTFPs) and about the challenges faced by women producing NTFPs. In collaboration with Mali’s Department for Water and Forests (DNEF), Sahel Eco has commissioned a study on the development of a national strategy for NTFPs. The study, which highlights the need for a national strategy, assesses the status of NTFPs in Mali, gaps and opportunities in the country’s existing legal frameworks, and the contributions of NTFPs to Mali’s national GDP.

Currently a draft, the study will be finalized during a multi-stakeholder workshop organized by Sahel Eco and DNEF with the support of RRI.  The workshop will convene representatives from civil society, the donor community, various ministries, and the media to gather recommendations on the study, establish a consensus on its key findings, and to generate political buy-in for the national strategy.
