Chatham House and the Rights and Resources Initiative held an expert workshop on ‘Small-scale and community forest producers: challenges and opportunities of legality verification’. This event took place on Monday 19th – Tuesday 20th May 2014, at the British Academy in London, UK.

The meeting discussed the particular challenges and opportunities that legality verification requirements pose for small-scale and community forest producers. The meeting aimed to identify what is needed to help overcome identified challenges and to expand opportunities. It also explored innovations in business models that enable buyers to engage with small-scale and community forest producers, including ensuring that the legality of timber from such enterprises can be verified.
