The Government of Liberia has recently introduced a number of reforms in the management of land and natural resources, with a view towards encouraging economic development and protecting citizens’ land and resource rights. Yet these reforms have also encountered obstacles, most notably in recent tenure-related conflicts between investors and communities.

To address these issues, the RRI Coalition in Liberia is holding a two-day multi-stakeholder dialogue on Large-Scale Land Acquisitions and Concessions in Liberia. The dialogue will convene over one hundred stakeholders and participants, including representatives from local communities, government agencies, private companies, civil society organizations, and international organizations.

The objective of the dialogue is to create a platform where all stakeholders can raise tenure issues, and to enable communities, government agencies, and private companies to work towards a common understanding of customary tenure rights and their bearing on large-scale concessions with a view to preventing land-related conflicts.
