From 8 to 9 July 2015, Sahel Eco, in collaboration with African Women’s Network for Community Management of Forests (REFACOF-Burkina Faso, in French) and with the support of the Rights and Resources Initiative, will be organizing an exchange visit between civil society actors and government representatives from Mali and Burkina Faso in the capital of Ouagadougou. The purpose of this visit is to learn and exchange on Burkina Faso’s best practices and challenges in relation to the promotion of NTFPs, including the establishment, since 2008, of an Agency for the promotion of NTFPs. The Mali mission will be meeting with women’s associations working in NTFP processing and commercialization, members of REFACOF Burkina as well as government officials from the National Agency for the promotion of NTFPs in Burkina Faso. As a result of this exchange, it is expected that attendees will have a better understanding of the strategy, experience and constraints faced in promoting and developing NTFPs, and that the lessons learned will contribute to the development of a national strategy and action plan for NTFP promotion in Mali.
