Environmental Racism and Biodiversity: Challenges and Pathways for the Implementation of Decision 16/6
Decision 16/6 of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP16) represents a historic milestone by explicitly recognizing the contribution of people of African descent — comprising collectives embodying traditional lifestyles —to biodiversity conservation and the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
In this context, the event proposes placing the implementation of Decision 16/6 at the center of the debate, presenting the International Afro-descendant Forum on Biodiversity, and connecting the experiences of people of African descent with contemporary challenges in biodiversity conservation.
The objective is to discuss pathways toward the effective implementation of the Decision and promote exchanges and collaboration among Afro-descendant organizations, leaders, experts, and institutions, strengthening strategic partnerships for policy advocacy, knowledge generation, and resource mobilization in the fields of biodiversity and environmental justice.
The event is co-organized by:
Coalición Internacional de Territorios y Pueblos Afrodescendientes de América Latina y el Caribe (CITAFRO)
