The IUCN World Parks Congress is a landmark global forum on protected areas held every ten years. As the world’s most influential gathering of people involved in protected area management, it sets the global agenda for the following decade. Rights and Resources Initiative will be holding two workshops during the Congress.

Community Land and Resource Rights as a Global Conservation Priority (Stream 6)

Friday, November 14, 15:30 – 17:00 | Dome Theatrette

This workshop will explore the relationship between community land rights and protected areas, from cases of conflict to innovative community contributions to conservation from a rights-based approach. Speakers will present experiences from Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, with plenary discussion and recommendations.

Catalyzing new actions to advance indigenous and community land rights in conservation (Stream 7)

With recommendations from Workshop 1 (Stream 6) as backdrop, this session will present the Global Call to Action on Indigenous and Community Land Rights, followed by a moderated discussion on actions to strengthen recognition of community land and resource rights in conservation and protected areas management.
