With official launch of the United Nations International Year of Forests this month” international organizations responded to a flood of attention with the release of several influential reports. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization unveiled the biennial issue of the State of the World’s Forests” revealing that the rate of forest loss around the world has slowed” partly due to planting efforts in Asia.
The Rights and Resources Initiative published Pushback and Community Based Forest Management” with a look at the benefits and opportunities that arise when forest dwellers taking a leading role in managing forests. And IUFRO offered recommendations for improving international forest governance.
In this month’s commentary” CIFOR’s Carol J. Pierce Colfer shares the story of what happened after the relocation of one of the research sites for the new book Collaborative Management of Tropical Landscapes.
