As reported by Dave Lazzarino for the Saskatchewan News Network” the Government of Saskatchewan has signed a 'historic' forestry management agreement. The agreement signed on 14 October 2010″ names a new company Saskaw Askiy Management Inc. (SAM) as responsible for managing the 3.3 mha Prince Albert Forest.  The a new company is formed by eight shareholders including First Nations and private sector forest companies.  “It's a pretty historic day…We've always felt that we've been left out of all negotiations and I'm thankful today” Montreal Lake Cree Nation Chief Roger Bird told the crowd that gathered at an event celebrating the agreement.

In Ontario” a historic shareholder-managed Sustainable Forest License was granted for the Kenora Forest on 14 October 2010.  As reported by the Kenora Daily Minor and News” paper and pulp giant Weyerhaeuser Canada joined with Provincial Forestry Ministry and the Wabasseemoong (Whitedog) First Nation” signed the unique agreement which will see the creation of the Miitigoog Limited Partnership” headed by Wabaseemoong Chief Eric Fisher as president.  The new Partnership will allow shared management of the 1.2 mha Kenora Forest. Chief Fisher referred to the new arrangement as the fulfillment of a treaty signed back in 1873.
