The Rights and Resources Initiative released the Tropical Forest Tenure Assessment in May 2009 along with the International Tropical Timber Organization. The report found that governments retain control over the world’s tropical forests’ globally” hindering action to stop deforestation and alleviate poverty among some of the world’s poorest rural peoples.
