Brasília Declaration on Collective Livelihoods

Date: June 24, 2026

The Brasília Declaration on Collective Livelihoods, launched at the 2026 Global Summit on Collective Livelihoods & Conservation in Brazil, is a shared vision and call to action from Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendant Peoples, Local and Traditional Communities, and their allies. The declaration recognizes that collective livelihoods and community economies are essential to addressing the climate, biodiversity, and social crises while safeguarding the forests, lands, waters, and ecosystems that communities have stewarded for generations.

The declaration calls for the recognition and protection of collective territories, direct and equitable financing for community-led initiatives, inclusive governance, and meaningful participation in decision-making. It also advocates for integrating community economies into global climate, biodiversity, and sustainable development agendas, while strengthening the leadership of women, youth, and traditional knowledge holders.

As governments and institutions move from commitments to implementation, the this declaration provides a roadmap for strengthening collective livelihoods and community economies as foundations for lasting climate, conservation, and development outcomes.
