Participants at the Interlaken+10 workshop—a country-led initiative that supports the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF)—learned about RRI’s findings on the global state of forest tenure and securing indigenous and community land rights to combat climate change. The workshop, organized by Switzerland with Indonesia, South Africa, Mexico, and Ukraine, discussed how to include key governance issues in the UNFF’s future International Arrangement on Forests. RRI’s demonstration of the linkages between community rights and lower deforestation and carbon emissions informed the workshop’s recommendations to the UNFF, including one to include the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in the indicators for the Sustainable Development Goals.
