A new practical guide on the application of UNDRIP in protected areas provides guidance on strengthening respect for Indigenous Peoples’ rights in conservation policies and practices in Mesoamerica. The guide was developed by the Indian Law Resource Center in collaboration with the IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic, and Social Policy, and in consultation with indigenous communities in Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. It will benefit both government and non-governmental conservation actors by providing guidance on how to bring their practices, policies, and laws in line with UNDRIP, indigenous customary laws and treaties, and decisions by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
