In response to advocacy by AIDESEP, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) committed to adding $16 million to its land registry and titling project (PTRT3), which will go directly to titling the lands of 1,166 indigenous communities in the Amazon. This is the first time that the IDB’s budget has been modified in favor of collective land titling, setting an important precedent for future Bank decisions. It also signals the success of efforts to convince the Bank of the importance of community land titling for preventing land grabs and environmental damage by armed groups, extractive companies, and other actors.
