A timely advocacy strategy spearheaded by ONAMIAP, CNA, and CCP in Peru helped influence the Constitutional Commission to advise Congress to repeal a controversial legal order that violates community consultation rights. (To date, confirmation from Congress is still pending). Indigenous organizations condemned the decree from the start, arguing that it would roll back their rights by giving the government power to expedite land allocation for future investments without properly consulting affected communities. In addition, the decree could undermine several ongoing land titling projects that the RRI Coalition in Peru has been actively involved in pushing forward.
