RRI at COP30: Earth’s #DefendersLeadTheWay on Climate Action

At UNFCCC COP30, taking place in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025, the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) will champion the message that recognizing and funding the leadership of Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendant Peoples, and local communities—especially women and youth—is essential to achieving global climate goals.

As governments, donors, and the private sector gather in the heart of the Amazon, RRI will position rights-based climate action as both the moral imperative and the most effective solution for lasting mitigation, biodiversity protection, and equity.

Across all themes, RRI’s engagements will showcase the power of rights-based conservation, community-led finance (CLARIFI), and intergenerational leadership as pillars of effective climate solutions. Through evidence, storytelling, and global media outreach, RRI will ensure that the world’s attention remains on those who protect the planet every day: Earth’s defenders.

Our 6 Priorities at COP30

The Pledge We Want

Advance community land tenure, gender justice, and rights-based conservation through rightsholder-led funding.

Youth Leadership

Amplify the voices and manifesto of Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and local community youth leaders from RRI’s Global Youth Forum.

Women’s Climate Leadership

Promote WiGSA and RRI’s analysis on climate finance for Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and local community women and the urgent need for direct investment.

Afro-descendant Coalition Recognition

Support the movement for Afro-descendant Peoples’ full participation and representation in UNFCCC decision-making.

Collective Protection

Advocate for investments in the safety and resilience of land and environmental defenders—those on the frontlines of climate action.

Secure Land and Forest Tenure Rights

Strengthen territorial rights as a science-based climate solution in countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions.
