RRI is thrilled to be participating in the Women Deliver Conference, the world’s largest conference on gender equality and the well-being of girls and women.

If you are also attending the conference, please join us in person for two sessions RRI is co-leading alongside Landesa on the essential contributions of indigenous and rural women to their communities—and the planet. This will be a fantastic opportunity to learn more about concrete gender-sensitive solutions to inspire attendees to act, implement what works, and put women at the center in their countries and communities:

SESSION 1 | Rural Women: Learning and Leading

Tuesday 4 June, 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm PST
Room 212, Vancouver Convention Center

One of the greatest challenges identified by rural women and their allies is gaining access to information in order to better understand the technical elements of policies. This session showcases how education, technology, and network building help women establish meaningful relationships with policymakers and exercise leadership. Panelists will highlight examples of how rural women have influenced the gender-equitable design and implementation of public policies, promoted gender equality, and spearheaded solutions to enhance overall community and environmental well-being.

SESSION 2 | Why Land? Strengthening Women’s Land Rights to Move the Needle on Sustainable Development

Wednesday 5 June, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm PST
Room 202-204, Vancouver Convention Center

Women have played a central role in rural land management throughout history, and are major contributors to agriculture and rural economies. Despite their significant contributions, most rural women don’t have legal rights to land and resources, and are too often left out of decision-making processes that affect them. This session will discuss land and resource rights as a critical nexus for advancing progress toward multiple development goals, including poverty reduction and climate resilience. Panelists will showcase successful practices for securing indigenous and rural women’s land rights.

Upholding the rights of indigenous and rural women—who use, manage, and conserve the community territories that comprise over 50 percent of the world’s land and support up to 2.5 billion people—must be part of the global gender equality agenda. An incredible wealth of resources from across the RRI Coalition highlight just some of the myriad ways that these women contribute to their communities as well as to global development and climate goals.
