As part of a movement to implement India’s 2006 Forest Rights Act and protect the rights of forest-dependent communities, Vasundhara organized two workshops for civil society organizations, activists and resource organizations on Community Forest Rights Recognition and Mapping. The first workshop (Jan. 24-25) in New Delhi discussed experiences from states across India that are in the process of implementing the Act, including Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. The second workshop (Feb.25-26) highlighted the challenges and opportunities in Odisha, which currently has one of the highest number of community conflicts on land and resource rights.
