Following months of demonstrations by almost a million people advocating for community rights to natural resources in Nepal’s Chure region, over 400 activists, scholars, and government representatives gathered in Kathmandu for the Chure Conservation People’s Rights Conference. The Conference resulted in a commitment by the government (which declared Chure a protected area in 2014 without consulting its five million residents) to include civil society representatives in its ongoing review of the Declaration.
