In recent years, Cameroon has launched a vast reform of the country’s land and forest sectors. Determining the current stage of reform processes in Cameroon is an enormous challenge for civil society, as well as a considerable restraint to effective advocacy.

The RRI Cameroon Coalition has seen the need for all stakeholders to remain informed of the progress of Cameroon’s land and forest reforms. To pursue its goal of advocating for the recognition of local communities’ rights in Cameroon’s ongoing reforms, the Coalition is developing and establishing a monitoring system to track the stages of the reform process.

The Cameroon Coalition will hold a workshop on July 30-31, 2015, in Akono, Cameroon, to share the monitoring system with a myriad of stakeholders for analysis and validation. In addition to Coalition members, the workshop will convene representatives from a wide range of government bodies, including the Ministry of State Property, Surveys, and Land Tenure (MINDCAF); the Ministry of Mines, Industry, and Technological Development (MINMIDT); the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Land Use Planning (MINEPAT); the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife (MINFOF); and the Senate, National Assembly, and Office of the Prime Minister.  Members of CACO, the RRI-supported national platform on land reform in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will also attend the workshop.

Convening participants from different sectors with diverse experiences and backgrounds, this session aims to enrich the monitoring system that the Coalition has developed and to produce a finalized model that emphasizes participation and inclusion.
