RRI and the Forest Peoples Programme (FPP) held a press conference with the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DfID) in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament, launching two important publications on forest tenure, poverty alleviation, and climate change. RRI called for the recognition and strengthening of the rights of forest peoples, which help to combat poverty and climate change, but are at risk from growing demands for food, fuel and fiber. The meeting was hosted by Martin Horwood, the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tribal Peoples, and featured discussion from Gareth Thomas, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and DfID.
