The Sahel Eco multi-stakeholder national workshop on Rural Field Trees and Agroforest Management followed a stocktaking study of issues in managing protected trees in peasant fields. The workshop benefited from strong peasant representation, and strong recommendations came out of the workshop. Field tree management is now recognized as a national issue and flagged for special attention in the drafting of laws and regulations. A major outcome of the workshop was the establishment of a national think tank on field trees with the National Coordination of Peasant Organizations. The High Council of Territorial Collectivities has committed to back future advocacy and to nominate a focal point on this issue at the national level.
