The Instituto del Bien Com?n (IBC) held a workshop on the rights of Indigenous Peoples to consultation for projects undertaken on their territories. The workshop provided capacity building for indigenous leaders to strengthen their efforts in determining the consultation processes. Participants included 39 indigenous leaders from 11 indigenous federations, representatives from Asociacion Interetnica de Desarrollo de la Selva Peruana (AIDESEP) and IBC, other national and regional NGOs, and representatives from the Peruvian Congressional Commission on Andean, Amazonian, and Afro-Peruvian Communities, Environment, and Ecology. The workshop concluded with a letter to the President of the Congress, signed by the representatives in attendance, supporting the Consultation Law without Presidential Limitations, and advocating for a consultation provision in the proposed Forestry Law.
