The Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) organized a workshop in Liberia to facilitate discussion on REDD, plantations, and community rights on land and forests. The workshop led to the establishment of a civil society task force designed to increase civil society engagement on these issues. The task force identified the following steps for moving forward: 1) work with communities affected by concessions 2) increase national awareness on the impacts of large scale concessions, 3) request that the government enact a national carbon policy and 4) encourage coordination between government agencies and institutions involved in governance and management of forests and land.
