In Hangzhou, China, RRI, FAO and Peking University co-organized the International Conference on Forest Tenure Reform: Status and review of forest tenure reforms in China and a global perspective on the way forward, hosted by the State Forest Administration (SFA) and the Zhejiang Provincial Forest Department on November 21-23. Participants reviewed and assessed progress and challenges to achieving China?s tenure reforms to date, sharing relevant research and recommendations on future opportunities to deepen reforms, as well as international experiences on the development and implementation of forest laws and policies. Over 100 Chinese government leaders, policy makers, researchers and civil society representatives along with resource persons from 11 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America attended. SFA officials reiterated their commitments to strengthening economic benefits and realization of rights in future reforms, and agreed to put forth policy recommendations in the upcoming revision of China?s Forest Law
