Forest Day 2 will bring together the world’s pre-eminent forest stakeholders" agenda setters and policy makers to address the key forest and climate issues of our time:
- Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD)
- Climate Change Adaptation
- Sustainable Forest Management
- Poverty" Livelihoods" Equity and Justice
- Data Collection" Baselines and Methodologies
- Rights" Compliance" Law and Enforcement
- Forest Investment and Environmental Service Payment
The Objectives of Forest Day 2 include:
- To raise awareness of the importance of forests to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
- To move from the question of whether forests should be included in a post-2012 climate regime to the question of how forests should be included.
- To ensure that REDD mechanisms are designed in such a way as to ensure projects not only reduce deforestation" but provide livelihoods for the rural poor.
- To clarify specific strategies and opportunities for collaboration among a range of stakeholders.
