Article 10(c) - Customary Sustainable Use: Examples" Challenges" Community Initiatives and Recommendations (ID 2197)

This is a key event for governments" media" experts in the field of biopersity conservation" representatives of indigenous and local communities" academia" NGOs" IGOs and industry representatives" to share and learn from the direct experiences of indigenous communities living in daily interaction with biological persity.

FPP's Partners from Bangladesh (Unnayan Onneshan The Innovators)" Suriname (Organisation of Kaliña and Lokono in Marowijne)" Guyana (South Rupununi District Toshaos Council)" Thailand (Inter-Mountain Peoples’ Education and Culture in Thailand Association)" Cameroon (Association OKANI)" and Panama (Fundacion para la Promocion de Conocimiento Indigena) will discuss the draft decisions on article 10 – in particular 10(c) - being considered at COP10. They will share information from ‘10(c) case studies’ they have produced" focusing on: what customary sustainable use is; what challenges these practices face; how implementation of 10(c) at national and local levels can be improved; and what communities are doing themselves to support and accelerate this process.

There will also be a screening of the new short film: Under threat: the forest peoples of Bangladesh" produced by The Ecologist Film Unit in association with Forest Peoples Programme.
