Staff from RRI’s Latin America Program attended the World People's Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth from April 20th-22nd” 2010. The conference brought together over 35″000 people from 140 countries to create an alternative agreement on climate change by global social movements” indigenous peoples” and international civil society. The resulting People's Agreement creates a framework for inclusion of indigenous and local community rights in upcoming UN COP 16 climate talks in Mexico in December 2010.


RRI contributed to the conference through RRI Collaborator CEDLA” who provided space to RRI at their booth for distribution of RRI source materials” “The End of the Hinterland”” “Seeing People Through the Trees”” and various documents on REDD and community forest governance. RRI Collaborators CIFOR” CEDLA” CEJIS” IPHAE” CIDOP” and IUCN were also in attendance.
