On May 14″ RECOFTC organized and hosted a roundtable discussion on the Community Forest Bill in Thailand.

TheCommunity Forest Bill in Thailand is important for forest-dependentrural communities to have legally recognized rights to manage” accessand use their forests in a sustainable manner. The bill has beendrafted and proposed to the parliament several times since 1991″ buthas yet to be passed. This meeting aimed to increase publicunderstanding and provide suggestions to the Drafting Select Committeeof the Community Forest Bill” who will discuss and finalize thelegislation. The 40 participants in the roundtable included members ofthe Drafting Select Committee” government representatives” NGOs”educational institutions” and others.
