In October” an informal group of public forest agency leaders met at the Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford” Pennsylvania (USA). The meeting was hosted by the US Forest Service and the Brazilian Forest Service” and coordinated by the Rights and Resources Group.
The meeting was organized to encourage discussion between senior forestry leaders. Each session was co-chaired by two forest policy leaders and each discussion was preceded by a background presentation. Leaders from each country gave presentations on the issues and challenges faced by their country” and country leaders discussed current realities and how each agency is facing these issues.
Discussion during the meeting reaffirmed that every country represented is undergoing major transitions: grappling with reforms of its public forestlands and administration” and confronting similar challenges of globalization” rural poverty and climate change.
