Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand

1100-1200: Thursday 1 October 2009

Approaching the UNFCCC summit in Copenhagen” the reduced emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) mechanism is being examined from every angle. The community voice is clear: If Asia-Pacific’s 450 million forest-dependent people fail to benefit from REDD” the socio- economic impacts could be severe. Ultimately it increases the risk that REDD will fail.

RECOFTC – the Center for People and Forests” will present the case for social justice in forest-carbon markets” and the key decisions needed for this. A panel of social forestry experts and UNFCCC delegates will attend for Q&A.
