Representatives from countries all over the globe are meeting in New York to negotiate a new agreement on sustainable management of the world's forests. The new pact” though not legally binding” would provide the first comprehensive international framework for the protection of all types of forests” and focus on the period 2008-2015. The UNFF will be an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange viewpoints on the agreement. Other agenda items include consideration of enhanced cooperation and policy and programme coordination” and provision of further guidance to the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.

Numerous side events are scheduled. The Rights and Resources Group will hold a meeting of its Board of Directors in New York later this week.
