Authors Janis Alcorn and Antoinette Royo have written a thought-provoking piece for the conservation community on what is an adequate strategy and commitment to address human rights issues in conservation efforts” including the designation and establishment of protected areas. They argue that funders have a responsibility to see that the same standard of human rights is applied in the developing countries where they are supporting action as in their own countries” and” importantly” that simply avoiding future wrongs is not adequate: past wrongs also need to be addressed.
