RRI makes the case for rights recognition and provides a global baseline from which to measure and instigate progress. Its signature tenure data tracks Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities’—including indigenous and community women’s—legally recognized rights to forests, land, and natural resources from both a quantitative and qualitative perspective. By creating spaces and opportunities for stakeholders—private, public, and indigenous and community—to come together, RRI creates credible pathways for diverse constituents to agree on and implement sustainable development solutions that fully respect the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. RRI has fostered national-level coalitions, pre-competitive spaces for private sector negotiation, and global convenings on community land rights, among others. Learn more.
RRI helps create the enabling environment for tenure reform by: responding to priorities identified annually by indigenous and local communities; enhancing collaboration around crucial reform processes; providing the latest research in accessible formats for advocates; and linking local-level work to key national and international development and climate processes.
